For the first time in its 102 year history, the Falkland Stampede has been cancelled because of COVID-19.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the postponement of the 102nd Falkland Stampede,” organizers said in a facebook post. “Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Falkland Community Association is unable to produce the high quality show we are proud of.”
The Stampede has been a staple in Falkland since 1919. It had already been postponed from the usual May long weekend date to the end of August, with the hopes of taking place in some capacity this year.
“This will be the first year the small town of Falkland has not seen a stampede since its inception in 1919, however we look forward to our best year yet in 2021,” the post added, with the event set to now take place between May 22 and 24, 2021.
“Stay strong, stay positive – we are all in this together.”
The Stampede usually attracts thousands of visitors to Falkland as is a major fundraiser for the community.
