UPDATE:
Kamloops RCMP say the bomb threat made at Royal Inland Hospital was a phone call to the hospital’s switchboard.
Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer says an anonymous caller called in and said someone else “may have left an explosive device in one of the washrooms.
That call came in at 2:10 p.m., and police were able to give the all-clear just before 5 p.m. when the threat was deemed unfounded.
In the mean time, the hospital was locked down and no one was allowed to enter. Several nearby businesses reportedly evacuated as well.
Van Laer says police are now trying to identify the caller.
Interior Health told people not to visit the hospital, and assured the public that staff inside the building were “highly trained” for responding to a threat like this.
