The MLA for Kamloops -North Thompson has a new critic role as the BC Liberals shuffled their shadow cabinet today.
Peter Milobar will be moving from Environment to Labour Critic, and he says he is excited for the challenge.
“I think when we see the lack of action the government has had on a wide range of issues through COVID as it relates to labour and the overall economy, certainly there’s a lot of material there to dig into and try to advance the issues that we have been trying to record,” he said.
“You know the rigmarole that everyone had to go through on the temporary layoff extension and the stubbornness of the government to not reverse course in a timely manner. It is just one example. Issues like that will be important to keep moving forward and coordinating and working with the various advocacy groups from all the various business organizations and labour out there.”
Milobar tells NL News the move was not unexpected.
“With the strange timing of that session, it probably put things on hold a little bit, but I don’t think its any great suprise that after a few years of everyone in their same critic roles, a bit of a refresh is a good way to go, and fresh eyes in various portfolios will bring a different way of looking at things.”
In all, there are 16 BC Liberals MLAs taking on new critic roles, including a number in the Interior.
Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo will take over the Environment file. Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart is the new critic for Economic Development, Competitiveness, Trade and Technology, with a focus on Regional Economic Development and Small Business, while Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes will move to Emergency Preparedness.
Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett is out of the shadow cabinet as she is not seeking re-election.
The MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson, Todd Stone, will be carrying on in his previous role as the critic for Municipal Affairs and Housing.
Today we’re announcing changes to our Official Opposition critic roles as our team continues to keep the pressure on the NDP and as we respond to the challenges of COVID-19 to help make a difference in people’s lives. pic.twitter.com/yV6rIBKuzG
