Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc (TteS) says someone has been going around claiming to be the Chief, adding it is not acceptable.
Chief Roseanne Casimir tells NL News they were alerted on September 1 after someone from another government office said they had ‘an amazing conversation’ with the Tk’emlúps Chief.
“[This person told us] she was speaking to him about the amazing work that we are doing here and that he had asked for funds for moose meat and some elk meat, falsely representing himself as the Chief of Kamloops Indian Band,” Casimir said.
“We don’t just go approaching people for any kind of funds, we go through proper channels and advocacy. You know, the different funding regimes that are publicly displayed and that we have an opportunity to apply for.”
The RCMP is investigating, and Casimir says anyone who had contact with this fraudster is asked to reach out to the Tk’emlúps communications department by email.
“This was addressed at council last week, and it was decided that one, we’re going to get a letter that is put out on our website,” she added. “We just don’t want any kind of false misrepresentation. We have a reputation that we want to uphold.”
And she also wants people to know that any correspondence from Tk’emlúps Chief and Council will come on an official letterhead and from emails using the ‘@kib.ca’ domain.
