BC’s Premier remains non-committal on when the next provincial election may take place.
During a Monday news conference, John Horgan was asked multiple times about the possibility of a fall election and he continued to side step the question.
“We are a minority government. We have been for the last 3.25 years and we’ve been preparing for the eventuality since day one and I imagine the other political parties have been doing the same as well.”
Horgan claims he has answered the election question many times saying he’s been ready for an election campaign and he will keep working until that time arrives. “My number one priority is the well-being of British Colombians and that may well sound stale to the people asking the questions, but it is fresh everyday for me. It is a privilege and an honour to have this job.”
Provincial Health Officer Dr Bonnie Henry has previously said that British Columbia is prepared for an election whenever it comes up, whether it be the fall, next spring or next year, and that elections can happen safely.
In a survey released on September 4th, the Angus Reid Institute says the NDP has a massive lead over opposition which may make an election irresistible to the New Democrats. The survey indicates that the NDP has a 19-point lead over the opposition BC Liberals, with just shy of half of residents saying they would cast votes for the party that has helmed a minority government for three years.
