During a stop in Kamloops on Tuesday, Conservative Finance Critic Pierre Poilievre says the wage subsidy should be simpler and more generous so businesses can hire more people.
Poilievre says Canada needs more job creation and income assistance should be a last resort.
“We don’t think that Canada needs an election right now. We think that Canada needs to work together to bring about a recovery. A worker led recovery and that is going to be Erin O’Toole’s priority going into the throne speech. Proposals that will get businesses to hire and pay more wages to the working class families of this country.”
Poilievre says Trudeau needs an election before he or other members of his government get criminally charged and before people find out how broke we are. He believes Trudeau will try and force a snap election in attempt to get a majority before he can be held accountable.
When it comes to economic recovery from the pandemic, he says what people really want is a paycheque and wants an agenda that encourages more jobs and hiring.
“We think the wage subsidy should be simpler and easier and more generous so that’s businesses can hire more people and give them paycheques. We think that the rent subsidy, which so far has gone to less than 5% of businesses, needs to be simplified and streamlined.”
When it comes to the WE Charity scandal, Poilievre says it has been maddening that parliament has been prorogued which blocked the ability to investigate and ask questions.
“I think Trudeau knew that we were getting a little bit too close to the truth. He released 5,000 documents related to the WE scandal, but blacked out hundreds of them. So I was going to go to a parliamentary committee and pass a motion to remove all that black ink and find out what was really hidden there. But, we couldn’t do that because he shut down parliament and now I think he would like to shut down parliament again and force an early and unnecessary election to prevent the truth from coming out before Canadians vote, but we are going to reconvene our investigations into the WE scandal.”
