Teck Resources says one its contractors at the Highland Valley Copper (HVC) mine near Logan Lake tested positive of COVID-19 earlier this week.
In a statement, Senior Community Affairs Officer, Jacqui Schneider, tells NL News the were notified of the positive test on September 20, and that this person was on site from September 8 to 11 working in the area of the tailings facility.
“The individual is now self-isolating,” she said, in an email. “HVC is working with public health authorities and has taken the necessary steps to manage the risk of transmission based on our response protocols. This includes tracing all potential contacts and disinfecting work areas.”
“Those who had close contact with the infected individual on site have been notified of the potential transmission and asked to self-isolate. Those not contacted by HVC have not been identified as a close contact through contact tracing and do not need to self-isolate at this time.”
Schneider says the company has implemented mandatory mask usage while indoors or when physical distancing is not possible.
As well, she notes, all contractors and outside visitors to the site are screened, and employees with symptoms or close contacts of people with symptoms are required to stay home from work.
