The pedestrian victim of a hit-and-run in Merritt is in stable condition at Royal Inland Hospital today after an incident last night.
Police say they responded around 6:30 p.m. yesterday after a person was stuck by a vehicle on Nicola Avenue near Houston Street.
Cpl. Brock Hedrick says the pedestrian was first taken to the Nicola Valley Memorial hospital in Merritt, before eventually being taken to Kamloops.
“The driver of the suspect vehicle was located a short distance away and was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of a collision,” Hedrick said.
“Police entered into a Impaired driving investigation and will be recommending charges to the B.C Prosecution Service of Operating a Motor Vehicle while impaired by drug and Failing to stop after accident.”
Hedrick says police are also grateful to the witnesses of the incident who helped them identify the driver.
