Police in Barriere say an early morning fire at the Spray All warehouse in Louis Creek over the weekend may have been a case of arson.
“Investigators now have reason to believe the blaze may have been an arson, due to findings at the scene,” said Barriere RCMP Cpl. Rob Welsman. “No injuries were sustained as a result of the blaze which resulted in a significant loss to both the commercial building and pieces of heavy machinery on site.”
Crews first responded to the fire at the corner of Sawmill Court and Agate Bay Road around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Welsman says a forensic specialist has examined the scene for physical evidence that may help police identify suspects.
Barriere Fire Chief Ashley Wohlgemuth told NL News on Monday that given the type of building, it is hard to find the fire’s point of origin.
“With the way it all landed on the ground before anyone had called us. It does make it a little bit harder,” she said.
Anyone with information about this incident or any other suspicious activity in the area before or after the blaze is asked to call the Barriere RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
