The President of the Kamloops Accommodation Association says hotel owners are trying to remain optimistic when it comes to the upcoming fall and winter.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Tyson Andrykew says it is tough to see the light at the end of the tunnel after an okay summer for hotel stays.
“Obviously not nearly where it normally and is and not nearly where we need it to be as we go into that winter season when things traditionally slow down,” he said.
That said, Andrykew is hoping that hotels in Kamloops will be able to benefit from any spill over from Sun Peaks hotels this ski season, though he says there hasn’t been any indications of that yet.
“If Sun Peaks fills up – even though they have got reduced amount of seasons tickets – we are hearing from some of their accommodators that the accommodations there are booking up pretty quickly,” he added. “We’re hoping that that does spill over into Kamloops as we are kind of the next nearest centre.”
“Our hoteliers will be able to reap the rewards of some overflow there, but at this point I’m not hearing from anyone else in Kamloops that they are seeing any of that overflow just yet.”
Back in August, Andrykew told NL News that a lot of inter-provincial business travel has started to return, which he says was good news for hotel stays, as most hotel guests in Kamloops are here for business.
