Kamloops Fire and Rescue is looking for a few good men and women to become paid, on-call firefighters.
Assistant Fire Chief Dan Sutherland says they are looking for people for Station 4 in Westsyde, Station 5 in the Rayleigh/Heffley area, and Station 6 which covers the Dallas/Barnhartvale area.
“We’re looking for folks that are interested in serving and giving back to the community, that are fit individuals, that are capable of doing the work that is required to be a paid, on-call firefighter,” he said on the NL Noon Report.
Sutherland notes these paid on-call firefighters support the work done by full-time firefighters in the city. Duties and responsibilities include responding to fires and emergencies, routine equipment maintenance, and weekly training.
All successful applicants will be paid for the time they spend in training in Kamloops, though
“No, you do not need to have previous firefighter training to become a paid on-call. We do have quite an extensive process for you to become a paid on-call member here and selected through our selection process,” Sutherland added, though preference will be given to people with prior National Fire Protection Association accreditation.
There are recruitment packages – that outline the criteria and testing regimen – available at Fire Station 1 at 1205 Summit Drive in Sahali.
The deadline to apply is Nov. 15, after which there will be an eight week screening and application process, following which the successful applicants will be contacted.
