Another four people were arrested at a Trans Mountain worksite in Kamloops on Saturday morning for refusing to leave after preventing operations at the site.
Southeast District spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says officers responded to the worksite at Kamloops Airport around 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 17 and took four women aged 58, 54, 42, and 29 into custody.
All four he says were released with conditions and have a court date on January 20.
“Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG) officers read the BC Supreme Court injunction to the four individuals who continue to interfere with operations at the site and were arrested for allegedly being in civil contempt of the Court Order issued on June 1, 2018,” O’Donaghey said, in a statement.
These arrests came two days after five people were taken into custody at the Trans Mountain work site on Mission Flats Road and near Kenna Cartwright Park last Thursday, with four people now facing charges for blocking work trucks.
“Demonstrators have the right to peaceful, lawful and safe protest and companies have a lawful right to complete their mandated work,” O’Donaghey added. “The RCMP is working hard to protect both of these rights and ensure all parties and public are kept safe.”
