Kamloops RCMP have one person in custody after a shooting last Friday at the Hospitality Inn, but note the arrest is not linked to that incident.
Sgt. Darren Michels says Steven Stuart Gardner was arrested in relation to events which occurred around September 13. The arrest, he says, comes after a vehicle that was spotted at the scene of the Oct. 16 shooting was later found abandoned on a rural property near Chase.
“We take these types of incidents very seriously due to the blatant disregard for public safety and we are working hard to identify those responsible,” he said. “We know that drugs, guns, and organized crime go hand in hand and continue to be a threat to our community.”
“At this time, no suspects have been arrested in relation to this incident however several investigative leads have been undertaken since the day of the gun shots.
Gardner is facing charges of driving while prohibited, possession of a firearm contrary to an order, and possession of a firearm without a license.
“To advance this investigation, a photo of Gardner is being released at this time,” Michels added. “If the public has any knowledge regarding Gardner’s activities or use of firearms, they are asked to contact the RCMP or Crimestoppers.”
Michels says police will have updates related to the shooting last Friday when it is available.
