A Kamloops family is relieved after police were able to find a man who had fallen in his home four days before he was found.
Kamloops RCMP say they were called on Oct. 13 by a family worried about a relative they hadn’t heard from in several months. Police say the family tried to reach out recently with some news but were worried as they were not able to make contact.
RCMP Sgt. Darren Michels says an officer went to the man’s last known address but got no response at the door. One of the neighbours told police the man in question lived there but hadn’t been seen for a few days. At that point, Michels says, police got a key to the house and began calling out to the man when inside.
“He located the man lying on the floor in very grave condition. The man indicated he had fallen four days prior and was not able to get up to help himself or call for assistance,” Michels noted, in a statement. “An ambulance was called and the man was quickly taken to hospital where he continues to recover from his ordeal.”
Police say the family has been notified of the incident, noting the man is now safe.
“This was a matter of a front line RCMP officer conducting a very timely investigation and being in the right place at the right time to not only find this man, but to help him,” Michels added. “All too often RCMP members are sadly subject to discovering a deceased person who hasn’t been heard in some time but fortunately for this man the investigator came at the right time.”
