A Kamloops man is in custody after a break-and-enter in a hotel room in the city this past Monday.
Logan Lake RCMP Cpl. Jarrett Duncan says it happened around 6:30 a.m., where someone stole keys and a cell phone from a room before stealing a car from the parking lot.
Duncan says the victims used a different cell phone to track where their vehicle was and found it in the Logan Lake area. He says a local tow company was giving the suspect a tow to get back on the Coquihalla after the vehicle was involved in a minor crash.
“RCMP members attended the area to find the suspect who was subsequently arrested and the vehicle and cell phone were recovered,” he said, in a statement. “The suspect, identified as Mark Daniel Clute of Kamloops, also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.”
Clute, 50, now faces several charges including break and enter, theft of motor vehicle, and failure to comply with a Probation Order. He is in police custody and will make a court appearance on Nov. 9.
“The Logan Lake RCMP would like to thank the owners of the stolen vehicle for their quick thinking and the tow company who helped police in locating the vehicle,” Duncan added.
