The President of the Kamloops Snowmobile Association says insurance will cover the cost of the recent loss of their chalet about 30 kilometres Northwest of Lac du Bois.
However, Jeff Boyle says the changing weather may mean they won’t be able to rebuild until next year.
“It’s just a tough time right now because we were set to begin the season and the snow is starting to fall up there and it’s hard to get in and out and its going to take us at least – if we were to go right now and try to rebuild it would probably take us all of the month to get it done and we’re really not sure what the snowfall is going to be like up there,” he said.
“Are we going to be able to get a shelter back up there again?”
The 12-by-20-foot wood structure that was burned to the ground by vandals was used as an emergency warm-up shelter for backcountry users. A pickup truck belonging to a logging company was also found in flames nearby.
Speaking on the NL Noon Report, Boyle also notes the RCMP have some decent leads.
“They had seen a spot where they thought maybe a suspicious vehicle had gone off the road and possibly had some damage and [they] picked up the pieces that were left and took them back and took a good look at them and were able to identify a vehicle,” he added.
Boyle though says he is confident they will find some kind of interim solution.
“We do have options. We have the skid-frame that it was built on and there’s a possibility we could bring that down, fix it, get it back up and get it back up there and build on-site down in town here and then bring it up on a flat deck and erect it up there, that’s a possibility,” he said.
“We’re just not sure which way to go right now we’re just sort of in the beginning stages.”
