Conditions are improving on local roads and highways after a snowstorm that blanketed the Kamloops area last night.
At least several accidents were reported in parts of Kamloops last night, including an accident on the Overlanders Bridge that slowed traffic at around 8 p.m., but no significant injuries have been reported.
There were also no significant crashes during the morning commute according to Kamloops Fire Rescue.
Platoon Capt. Norm Little says there was only one callout near Dallas, which was at about 9:15 a.m.
“We had one callout for a motor vehicle accident, it involved two vehicles by Kokanee Way on the East Trans Canada Highway. All occupants were out of the vehicles when we arrived.”
Little says he would’ve expected to see more accidents during the day, saying the roads this morning were “quite bad.”
Many drivers were stuck behind an apparent closure last night on the Trans-Canada Highway between the turnoff near Kamloops and Cache Creek. Drivers reported a semi-truck that had jack knifed near Savona, and other drivers reported RCMP blocking the road.
DriveBC never stated when the highway was closed, but motorists say it was shut down at about 7:45 p.m. DriveBC sent a Tweet at 8 p.m. saying to watch for slippery conditions on that section of highway, and, just before midnight, Tweeted the highway was back open, despite never declaring it closed.
The Trans-Canada was also closed in Salmon Arm this morning for about three hours, after DriveBC says a semi-truck had jack knifed near the CP Rail track near Canoe.
There were no significant closures on the Coquihalla Highway reported from DriveBC.
A snowfall warning had been in place last night for the North Thompson, the Shuswap and the Cariboo, and forecasters had called for up to 10 centimetres of snow in Kamloops and up to 15 cm for the Coquihalla.
