B.C. health officials report 1,130 new COVID-19 cases in the past two days, including 34 in Interior Health.
There were also four new deaths in the past two days.
There are now 155 people in hospital and 44 people in intensive care, as well as 5,793 active cases. Active cases have jumped by 2,052 in the past five days alone, after being at 3,741 on Saturday.
There are also now 11,091 people in isolation with the virus.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says health officials are “reaching our limits” for being able to contain exposures and trace contacts of people with COVID-19, and she says this is why people in the province “need to act now” to reduce the spread.
“Right now, we’re starting to see increases in hospitals, we’re starting to see more people in long-term care being affected. And that’s our signal. It’s time to step back. We have to step back from our social interactions, so that we can protect our community’s health and wellness in the long term.”
Within the Interior Health Authority, there are now 158 active cases and one person is in hospital with the virus.
Meanwhile, an outbreak at the Royal Inland Hospital patient care tower project is now at 10 cases among IHA residents, plus an undisclosed number of other cases among workers who don’t live in this health authority.
IHA also says an outbreak at the La Casa Resort in West Kelowna is up to nine cases.
