With the city of Kamloops just over $33-million away from hitting the $400-million mark in construction value for the first time, the question is can it get there?
Building and Engineering Development Manager Jason Dixon expects to see continued activity but he says to not expect permits for large projects like the Patient Care Tower.
“I would expect to finish out the year with just sort of average levels of activity or kind of what we would normally expect at this time of year,” he said on NL Newsday. “It always slows down a little bit as winter starts to creep in.”
After setting a new record for construction activity for the fourth straight year in September, the city issued another $19.1 million in building permits in the month of October, taking the total for this year to $366,647,532.
Moving forward, Dixon thinks we could see around $15 to $20 million in issued permits in November and December.
“I think we’ll just see continued activity but we certainly won’t see anything like the patient care tower projects, anything like that but I’m sure we’ll continue to see lots of permits go out the door,” he said.
Last year, Kamloops hit what was a record construction value of $288 million. It took until Dec. 31 to break the old 2018 record of $285 million. Before that, in 2017, the construction value was a record $224 million.
