Charities have had to make adjustments during the pandemic and the Kamloops Y is no different.
The 50/50 draw for this years Y Dream Home Lottery was huge success and so the foundation is doing a pre-Christmas one that could net you $200,000 cash.
“Potentially , the jackpot can go to $400,000. Four weeks that ‘s all it’s going to be. Half is going to be is going to be for the Y, half will be be for a little Christmas cash, wouldn’t that be a nice one?” Lottery spokesperson Bryce Herman said on the NL Morning News.
With COVID-19 restrictions in place, he admits doing things entirely online can be limiting.
“We’re looking at all the other fundraising ventures that we do and, of course, they’re challenging,” he added. “There’s no way you’re going to be able to get some of those off the ground, so we know doing something online is challenging but certainly its about the amazing support that we’ve had over the last 25 years of this lottery.”
Herman though says that despite the 50/50 being so popular earlier this year, there is no guarantee it will be a success this time, but he is confident.
“I mean it’s a brand new application, every time you do it there’s always the risk that it may not fly and you know you go through all of those things so you have to prove it to them that you’re really going to get out there and try and make this come together,” Herman added.
“We think we’ve got a great recipe to make this work. Fourteen days to sell it out with the additional tickets then we’re flying down the home stretch, pun intended, with the 50/50 draw.”
“We’ve got a got a great team of people working on the lotto and we’re really looking forward to getting it out into the public today so I think it’s going to have a great uptake but we need your help, there’s no doubt about it,” he added.
There won’t be any single tickets available, you’ll have to get value packs – three tickets for $25, eight tickets for $50 and 20 tickets for $100.
“We know people like to do it that way so rather that using single tickets, we thought let’s let people buy the clusters that suit their purchasing needs,” Herman said. “Like I say, we’ll go to the $400,000 mark, if we can get there in four weeks, not a bad goal, a hundred grand a week.
“It’s a lofty goal but we’re hopeful.”
As of publishing, the jackpot was sitting at $57,700.00, with the winner taking home half of that amount. You can get you tickets online at KamloopsY5050.ca
