A week later, and repairs are still going on near Juniper after two water main breaks.
Utility services manager Greg Wightman says crews are repairing parts of Highland Road that were damaged by rushing water when the water line broke.
“The breaks were all above the entrance to Valleyview Arena, they were all located just above that. What we’re dealing with is actually where the water was coming out further down Highland Drive, closer to Valleyview Drive where that was actually bubbling up to the surface, there’s a void there that we’re excavating right now and trying to get repaired.”
Wightman says crews are removing asphalt and putting material back in the road, and he expects it will be re-paved by the end of Friday.
The pipe itself was fixed on the weekend, which Wightman says is a crucial line for pumping water up to Juniper.
“The way we had to address it is we had to continue to supply Juniper with water, so we had to make sure that we were making this repair in a way that allowed us to continue to pump water up there. If we hadn’t, then all of Juniper would’ve been without water from the time it broke until the time we were able to make a repair. So that’s what’s really added to the complications here, is just the importance of this water main.”
He thanked the several thousand residents in Juniper who were asked to use less water while repair work was going on.
