Merritt RCMP have been cleared of any potential wrongdoing after a man shot and killed himself outside their detachment last weekend.
The Independent Investigations Office says police heard a gun shot outside their detachment on Voght Street last Saturday, just after 4:30 p.m.
The IIO says officers went outside where a man was standing with a rifle, who pointed it in their direction.
Those officers took cover, and shortly after the man died.
The IIO didn’t give more detail initially, but it now says the man turned the rifle on himself.
No gunfire was exchanged between police and the victim at any point, and the IIO says Mounties played no part in the tragic death.
