It’s been a year of adjustment for the Western Canada Theatre, including this year’s Christmas show.
The Kamloops theatre company was forced to change on the fly when the Province tightened restrictions a few weeks ago according to Artistic Director, James McDonald. “We had plans for live performance up to about three weeks ago. We were still hoping to do something in the Sagebrush for a limited audience and when the dictum came down at the end of November we made a big pivot.”
That’s when The Snow Must Go On was born. “We have some new film equipment, streaming equipment at the Sagebrush that we’ve been using so we’ve had a good time putting together six videos that we’re releasing advent calendar style, which is a great way to enjoy the season.”
He says it will include some holiday classics with a twist. “We put out a concert version of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas that’s a back yard B-C White Christmas. It’s beautifully shot by four brilliantly talented artists all around BC, one of whom is in Shuswap so she’s our local.”
Another one is called Sheldon and Dawn’s Musical Sleigh Ride. “Which is carols and comedy acts for the Christmas season.”
“Over the weekend we have a couple of extremely familiar Christmas classics all done with a local twist. They’re really fun videos, they’re all about 25 to 40 minutes each.”
McDonald says it ends with a big, online bash. “On Monday at seven o’clock we’re going to do a virtual watch party where we’re going to have clips from it. I’m going to do interviews with all of the artists involved, we might have some festive cheer involved and people can make comments or ask questions of the artists as well.”
The videos began showing on the 15th and you can catch all of them for free on the Western Canada Theatre’s website
