Supplemental items are expected to have a smaller impact on the 2021 budget in Kamloops, compared to most other years.
Finance director Kathy Humphrey says if all items are approved, the tax increase this year will go from as estimated 0.28 to about 0.5 per cent.
“It’s not that the things aren’t expensive, it’s that we’re trying to spread them out and not have them sort of all be in the next year. So the impact for 2021 alone is about $350,000 dollars, but obviously they would have ongoing commitments into future years as well.”
The largest supplemental item being requested is a new RCMP Training Facility which would cost the city $8.7 million, although spending wouldn’t happen until 2024 and 2025.
