Interior Health has issued four drug alerts for the Kamloops area which will be in effect until next Friday, Jan. 15.
The health authority says the drugs are being sold as ‘Down’ and were all tested at ASK Wellness in the city.
The first substance is a purple and granulated but there is no picture available. IH says it contains fentanyl, AMB-FUBINACA, and it may contain benzodiazepine. Another brown pebbled substance which is being sold may contains Etizolam (a type of benzodiazepine), fentanyl, and AMB-FUBINACA.
Health officials say these two substances carry a high risk of overdose or other side effects including hallucinations or agitation. People may also not respond to naloxone.
A white powder substance that was tested was found to contain benzodiazepine and fentanyl, but Interior Health says it could also contain AMB-FUBINACA, while a grey-blue pebble substance was found to contain fentanyl and benzodiazepines.
In both of these situations, health officials say there is a high risk of overdose noting people may not respond to naloxone.
People are being urged to get their drugs checked and to not use alone. Officials are also urging people to download the Lifeguard app, or use an overdose prevention or supervised consumption site.
