Sicamous RCMP now say a woman who died early in the morning on New Year’s Day was the victim of a hit-and-run homicide.
Sgt. Murray McNeil says the woman – who was found with ‘significant injuries’ around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 on a private road within the Cedars RV Resort in Malakwa – has been identified as a 64-year-old, though a name was not been released by police.
The woman was rushed to the hospital in a grave condition but she later succumbed to her injuries.
“The investigation has led investigators to believe that the woman was struck by a motor vehicle,” he said, in a statement, noting RCMP have been working with the Southeast District General Investigation Section and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service.
“This is now considered a fatal hit-and-run.”
There is no description of the vehicle in question, and McNeil says police are renewing their call for information from the public as they try to track down suspects.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878 or Crime Stoppers.
