If you see smoke coming from Kenna Cartwright Park today, Kamloops firefighters say it is likely because of fuel mitigation work taking place there.
Platoon Capt. Troy Grant says this type of work is normal for this time of year in preparation for the fire season in the summer.
“It is a winter time thing and conditions would affect perhaps when in the winter they do that, but it could be any of the winter months where they are cleaning the land up there for us,” he told NL News.
“Forestry does manage different areas around the city and Kenna Cartwright being as big as it is, and as easy to see from everywhere in the city, it gets a lot of interest.”
Grant says he’s not aware of any other fuel mitigation work taking place in Kamloops today, noting if people have concerns, they can still contact Kamloops Fire and Rescue so they can investigate.
Hi @EdiePletzer the smoke coming from Kenna Cartwright Park today, it is coming from further fuel modification work. Crews are working hard to reduce the risk of wildfire in the park, when the next wildfire season arrives.
