An outbreak of COVID-19 has been reported at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake.
Interior Health says four staff members in the hospital have tested positive for the virus, but it says there hasn’t been evidence of exposure to any patients. Contact tracing is now underway.
The health authority also says it remains safe for the general public to go to the hospital for medical care if needed.
“A team including infection control practitioners, microbiologists, medical health officers and communicable disease specialists are overseeing the site to ensure all safety protocols are in place,” IH says in a statement.
This is the second outbreak of COVID-19 at a healthcare facility in Williams Lake.
There were two staff members at the Williams Lake Seniors Village long-term care home who contracted the virus, but as of Monday the owner of the care home, Retirement Concepts, said there were no longer any active cases. It says the outbreak will be declared over on Jan. 23 if there are no new cases before then.
Interior Health reminds people to avoid social gatherings, not to travel if they don’t need to, wear a mask, social distance and to stay home if you’re sick.
