
An outbreak of COVID-19 at the Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre has grown to 18 cases.
Interior Health tells NL that includes 14 residents and four staff members. When the outbreak was first declared four days ago, on Jan. 14, there were three residents and one staff member with the virus.
The long-term care home has 130 beds, including 125 that are publicly funded.
This is the second COVID-19 outbreak in a long-term care home in Kamloops. The first one, at The Hamlets at Westsyde, involved just a single staff member when it was declared in mid-November.
There are now nine active outbreaks at long-term care homes in Interior Health; one each at homes in Kamloops, Kelowna, West Kelowna, Penticton, Oliver, and Williams Lake, and three in Vernon.
Meanwhile an outbreak of COVID-19 at Cariboo Memorial Hospital now has 10 staff cases.
Active cases in Interior Health are at 1,058 with the death toll now at 50 cases; 40 of which have happened in the past month.
