Kamloops RCMP say Westsyde Road has been a particular area of concern for drivers speeding, and police are asking people to slow down.
Cpl. Dana Napier says concerns have been raised to police about how some people drive on Westsyde Road, saying it’s a 60-kilometer-per-hour zone with pedestrian crossings and a school zone, at Westsyde Elementary.
“It’s important for drivers to make sure they are travelling the speed limit, watching for changes in it, and adjusting their speed for conditions to help ensure everyone arrives at their destination safely,” Napier says.
Police are also warning drivers to slow down in school zones, especially during their morning commute. Napier says precipitation and temperature fluctuations can lead to quickly-changing road conditions and icy roads in the morning.
“Please be extra aware of students on their way to school and observe all posted speed limits, remembering that they’re for ideal driving conditions only. With the slippery conditions that may be present during these icy mornings, drivers may have to slow it down even more.”
Police advise pedestrians to “stay unplugged” and leave devices alone while walking on and crossing main roads.
Drivers are asked to be aware of vehicles stopped in front of them or in lanes next to them, saying they may be stopping for pedestrians. Police ask drivers to watch for school busses as well.
