With the city proposing to spend $750,000 to plan for upgrades to the Kamloops RCMP detachment, one city councillor is hoping Ottawa comes through with some of that cash.
While on the NL Morning News, Bill Sarai said he realizes it’s a lot of money but also realizes the police force is outgrowing the building on Battle Street.
“I know the supplemental item is a big ask. That detachment is busting at the seems. My concern is, is it going to be a long term use building that we’re going to be staying there? Is Ottawa recognizing that it also needs and upgrade?”
Sarai says it’s about more than just simply running out of room in the detachment.
“Ottawa also needs to understand that it’s good the health and wellness of their members as well to work in a safe environment in the office building and not having to put files in closets and their forensics and that need to be upgraded,” he says.
“So, are they coming to the table? That’s one of the questions I will have but it definitely does need and upgrade. Will be included in this year’s supplemental? I’m not sure.”
