Kamloops RCMP say two people, including a police officer, were assaulted on Tuesday, Jan. 19, after police responded to a disturbance call around 9:30 p.m. that day.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were notified about an intoxicated man who was aggressive towards staff and customers at an unidentified business in the 900 block of Columbia Street West.
“While police were en route, they were advised the same person had assaulted someone,” she said, in a statement.
Evelyn notes when police tried to arrest a man who matched the suspect’s description, he resisted arrest and punched an officer multiple times. It is not clear at this time what the extent of the injuries are to the officer or the other person who was assaulted.
“[The man] continued to resist as he was apprehended and taken to cells [to sober up],” Evelyn added, noting the unnamed man was later released with conditions and a future court date.
