The RCMP Dive Team has found a body in the North Thompson River in Kamloops, after a five-day long search.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says the man’s body was found in shallow water near the area where he had last been seen.
On Thursday night, at about 7:30 p.m., witnesses reported a man going into the river, who then apparently tried to swim across before disappearing. Emergency crews had been searching ever since.
The man believed missing was described as being slender, white, and likely in his thirties, and was wearing a blue jacket when he went in the water.
Evelyn says the body found by police matches the description of the person who went in the water, but notes there are no other details are available at this point.
“Sometimes when the dive team gets in that water, the visibility might not be what it seems to be on the surface,” Evelyn said. “There’s lots that goes into it and I’d hate to speak for them, but I do know that rivers are complex. Water is complex.”
Any potential witnesses are still being asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-314-8000.
