There has been an exposure of COVID-19 at Arthur Stevenson Elementary School in Westsyde – the tenth school in Kamloops that is reporting an ongoing exposure of COVID-19.
Principal Deanna Steptoe says the exposure happened on Monday and Tuesday of last week, Jan. 25 and 26, noting this person is self-isolating at home with support from local public health teams.
“We are supporting Interior Health Authority as they undertake contact tracing to determine if any other members of our school community were in contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and if any additional steps are required,” she said, in a letter to parents today.
As has been the policy, school officials say if parents haven’t been contacted by public health teams, their kids are not at risk of developing COVID-19. If you have questions or concerns about COVID-19, you’re also asked to contact 811.
Earlier in the day, an exposure was reported at St. Ann’s Academy while SD73 Superintendent Terry Sullivan says there are now 14 confirmed cases at Sa-Hali Secondary School with 200 students and 18 staff in self-isolating.
Other exposures have been reported at Marion Schilling Elementary, Valleyview Secondary, Summit Elementary, Beattie Elementary, NorKam Secondary, Aberdeen Elementary, and Westsyde Secondary.
In all, there have been COVID-19 exposures reported at 17 schools in the Kamloops local health area – with 15 schools having seen exposures this year.
After 14 days without any further cases, exposures are no longer considered active by Interior Health.
