
A Kamloops Mountie was assaulted while responding to a report of shots fired in Juniper over the weekend.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says the call came in at 8:10 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Nechako Drive. It was reported as a possible mental crisis where someone was believed to have shot themselves.
Evelyn says no one was injured, however an officer was a bitten by a person while police were searching for possible weapons.
The suspect was arrested and will have a court date, and charges were expected to be considered.
Idling Truck Stolen in North Kamloops
Kamloops RCMP responded to 306 calls for service on the weekend.
Among those was someone’s truck being stolen while it was left idling to warm up in a driveway.
Evelyn says that happened Sunday night at 5:50 p.m., saying the truck owner called police to report the incident while driving behind it on Tranquille Road.
Mounties followed the truck from a distance until it parked on Dallas Drive. Evelyn says the man who was driving was promptly arrested when he stepped out.
The suspect has been released from custody with a court date.
Kamloops Man Charged After Truck Stolen Downtown
A 34-year-old Kamloops man has now been charged after police responded to a call for a stolen truck on the weekend.
Evelyn says Mounties were called to 10th Avenue at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, where the truck had been stolen, and officers found it abandoned a stone’s throw away, in the 1100-block of Battle Street.
Police arrested a suspect who was nearby and matched the description of the truck thief.
John Beauchemin faces several charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, failing to comply with a probation order and failing to follow curfew.
Beauchemin remains in custody and appeared in court earlier today.
