Kamloops RCMP are looking for suspects after a retail store in Aberdeen Mall was broken into twice in a span of three days.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says the first break-in was reported on Wednesday night, at 9:45 p.m., at the business in the 1300-block of the Trans Canada Highway. She says a large window was smashed in with a rock, and one man entered and stole ‘various items of clothing’ before fleeing on a white and silver mountain bike.
Evelyn says this morning, at about 1 a.m., the same business was broken into again with a rock. This time, two suspects went into the store and stole clothes before taking off on mountain bikes. The thieves were believed to have gone northbound on Hillside Drive and continued on towards Columbia Street West.
She says a police dog was used to try and find the suspects this morning but no one was found.
Evelyn is asking people to be careful about the things they buy as it could be things that were stolen.
“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is not only asking the public to help identify the suspects, but also to be careful about what they buy and who they buy it from,” Evelyn says. “Ask yourself where the item came from, why the person is selling it, and remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
Evelyn says buying stolen merchandise fuels thieves to keep stealing. She urges people to not buy something if they think the seller obtained it illegally.
“We all have a responsibility in discouraging crime and this is a simple step we can take to help.”
In the theft on Wednesday night, a suspect is described as a white man who was seen wearing a black Nike sweater, grey sweatpants, black and white Nike basketball shoes, black gloves and a white disposable mask.
In this morning’s incident, the two suspects are described as being men who were wearing all black, masks and gloves, and a black hoodie with a Nike emblem on the front.
Anyone with information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000, and reference file number 2021-3728 or 2021-3861.
