A large police scene that involved road closures led to an arrest on the Ashcroft Indian Band this morning.
Police were called to an area near New Ranch Road at 8 a.m., after reports came in that a man with handgun was seen in the area.
Southeast District RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says police closed down Cornwall Road and part of Highway 97 to contain the area during their initial response.
O’Donaghey says police zeroed-in on one property on the band, and eventually made an arrest without incident.
He says police are now recommending charges against a 35-year-old man, related to firearm and threat-related offenses. The suspect remains in custody.
Police have seized a replica BB gun, according to O’Donaghey.
Anyone with information on this morning’s incident is asked to call Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216.
