Kamloops is calling it a good news story.
The city spent close to ten million dollars to buy the old Owl Road landfill in Valleyview and convert it to the Resource Recovery Centre.
Streets and Environmental Services Manager Glen Farrow says, the diversion rate of garbage going into the centre is growing, by about ten per cent since last year.
“About 85 per cent of all product that comes to the site is being diverted. A huge portion of that is the clean fill but its still being reused repurposed for cover material rather than just discarded in the corner.”
Farrow says the city is working on how to better recycle gypsum.
