City of Kamloops road crews have the brooms out in full force.
Streets manager Glen Farrow says street sweeping started yesterday on part of the North Shore.
He points out it’s still winter at higher elevations, and says the whole process of street sweeping takes about three months.
“We are planning on doing a bit earlier of a service to some of those main bike routes. So areas like Valleyview Drive, Hugh Allan, Summit Drive, we’re seeing a lot more people getting out on bikes and getting out of their vehicles. So we’re hoping to put more energy to get ahead of picking up the sand on some of those mains.”
Farrow says road crews are prepared for a double take-out if needed. While street sweeping is underway, he says salt and sand are still available if there is a snowfall event.
“We definitely haven’t put the (plow) trucks away yet, haven’t removed all the sand. The salt is still available… We’re in that time of year where we’re doing snow and ice control, patching potholes and picking up sand. So we’re full steam ahead and all hands on deck right now.”
Farrow says street sweeping in 2020 started on March 4, meaning this year’s work started a day earlier.
The city has set up an interactive map, showing streets that have been swept, streets about to be swept and streets that haven’t been swept yet. That map can be found by clicking here.
