UPDATE: 12:30 p.m.
One person was taken to hospital from a construction site in downtown Kamloops this morning, after he was apparently electrocuted.
It happened at 11:15 a.m. at 444 St. Paul Street, and crews responded to a call of an electrical explosion.
Kamloops Fire Capt. Dean Austinson tells NL News a worker suffered second- or third-degree burns to part of his body, most significantly to one of his arms, and says that person was taken to Royal Inland Hospital. Austinson described the worker’s injuries as non-life-threatening.
Right now, it’s unclear how the worker was injured. Within an hour after the accident, WorkSafeBC staff had arrived at the scene to investigate.
“From the report from the site supervisor, they heard a pop, he came out and then everything was already done. There was a hole in the safety netting and the worker was already down. So as far as me to speculate, I couldn’t say,” Austinson says.
Workers standing on the street told NL News the site had been shut down for the rest of today.
The seven-storey building under construction is called ‘The Lightwell’ with 140 housing units and ground floor commercial space. Twelve units are for seniors or people with disabilities, and the remaining are market condo units that have already been sold.
The site supervisor for the project declined to speak to NL News about the accident.
Meanwhile, BC Hydro says 140 customers in downtown Kamloops have lost power following the incident. Power is now expected to be restored at 3 p.m., after an original estimate of 12:30 p.m.

Reports are a man is down after some sort of electrical exposition but I don’t have any details just yet. @RadioNLNews pic.twitter.com/fTwZB4n7QY
