It’s the ‘Mother of all Raffles’ at the Kamloops Food Bank and one lucky winner will be going home with as much as $100,000 in just under two months.
Executive Director Bernadette Siracky says people can buy tickets online right until Mothers Day on May 9. In all, there are 42,500 tickets available in groups of three, five, or 20. Those ticket packs cost $10, $50, and $100 respectively.
“You just have to go to our website and there is a big button on there that says click here with $100 bills all over it. You click there and you get taken into the page where you can buy tickets right away,” she said on the NL Morning News.
“We were already talking about what its going to look like when we call the winner. We’re excited to know what someone’s going to do with that kind of money.”
The Kamloops Bank will use its share of the money to keep the food bank operating.
“We are going to doing what we do and that is serving 6,000 people, 54 community agencies that make meals and nine regional food banks,” she said. “We’re a pretty busy hub here at the food bank.”
She says COVID-19 has made it impossible for charities and non-profits to hold in-person fundraisers, leading to many organizations moving things online.
“I don’t think this year will be much different that last year so many charities are looking for different ways to bring in the dollars,” Siracky noted. “We need money to operate, everyone can understand that. We’re really seeing a shift in what we are able to bring in online and virtually so we’re trying to make it exciting for people.”
As of publishing, the jackpot was sitting at $11,050 with half going to the winner.
The draw will be held at 9:00 a.m. on May 10. For more information, go here.
