Kamloops-area parents are being encouraged to register kids early this year for summer camps at the Big Little Science Centre.
The centre’s Gord Stewart tells NL News the number of kids that they’ll be able to take will depend on the status of pandemic restrictions on gatherings.
“The summer camp registration opens now and the plan is we’ll take everybody sort of in the order they apply and create a list,” he said. “Then in June we’re hoping we’ll know the numbers and then we’ll just go down that list and see who is still interested and first person in, gets first kick at it.”
“We’ll fill up the camps to whatever capacity is determined at the time.”
Last year, there were just eight people at camp, Stewart said.
“I don’t see that one happening this year. I have a feeling there will be some opening of restrictions but not to that level, he said. “We have a capacity we could do depending on the style of whichever camp we’re talking about we can do up to 20 people in our current location.”
Stewart says payment won’t also be required until June when they expect to have a better idea how many kids they will be allowed to have.
“If we know you’re allowed 10 people in then we will call the first 10 people and get payment and secure their spot at that point. But yeah, we won’t really ask for payment until we know that we can run a camp.”
Stewart says space will be limited specifically for the Robotics Club and Summer Science Camps.
