B.C. has surpassed more than 1,000 COVID-19 cases in a single day for the first time ever today.
There were 1,013 new cases reported, as well as three news from the virus.
With that, B.C. has also hit six-figures for total COVID-19 cases, with 100,048 since the pandemic began.
Of the new cases today, 64 were in Interior Health, while 458 were in Fraser Health, 385 were in Vancouver Coastal Health, 60 were in Northern Health and 47 were in Island Health.
It’s unclear how many variant cases have been reported today, as Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there has been a delay in sequencing those cases today. As of Tuesday, there had been 2,553 total variant cases reported, with 313 active.
Meanwhile, now 756,080 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the province, to more than 668,000 residents. More than 32,000 vaccine doses were administered today which is a one-day high so far for B.C.
Bookings for vaccine appointments are now open for all residents who were born in 1948 or later, and all Indigenous residents born in 2003 and later. Adults between ages 55 and 65 in the Lower Mainland are also able to book a vaccine appointment at their local pharmacies as of today.
Today, COVID-19 outbreaks were also reported at two hospitals within Interior Health, in Kelowna and Vernon.
“Tomorrow, as we go into the Easter weekend, expanded visitation in all long-term care facilities throughout the province will get underway,” Henry says. “If you are planning to visit your family member or friend, please remember that COVID-19 safety plans must continue to be followed, including wearing masks and staying away if you feel unwell.”
Henry adds no one should be travelling outside their home communities right now if it’s not essential.
“Help us to push our curve back down again. Do this by staying small, staying outside and staying with your same group of close contacts. This is what will get us closer to putting COVID-19 behind us,” Henry says.
