UPDATE:
Kamloops RCMP confirm that a man was stabbed near 6th Avenue and Victoria Street downtown yesterday evening.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says the man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital where he is in a stable condition.
Evelyn says police are looking for witnesses and surveillance footage of the incident that happened around 6:20 p.m., when police were called to a report of an assault with a weapon.
She says about 15 minutes before the report, police were told about two men fighting behind an address in the 600-block of Victoria Street. Investigators believe the incidents are related and involve the same men.
“This happened at a busy time of day, with lots of people present in the area,” she said. “If you were driving downtown around 6 p.m. or prior to 6:30 p.m., and have any dash cam footage, please let us know. Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen, heard, captured surveillance of, or know anything about what transpired yesterday.”
Evelyn notes at this time, police do not believe the incident was random or that the general public is currently at risk.
The area was closed for some time while police collected and searched for evidence. Frontline officers, the Police Dog team, as well as General Investigations, and Forensics teams all responded.
If you have any information you’re asked to call Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2021-9982.
