Kamloops RCMP say a police vehicle was damaged in a Friday-night collision at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and 8th Street on the North Shore.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, a car heading north of 8th Street allegedly drove through a yellow light and t-boned a southbound van turning left onto Richmond Avenue, near the Canadian Tire.
“The collision caused the van to spin and crash into a nearby police cruiser on Richmond Avenue. The van’s engine also caught on fire, which was extinguished by a responding frontline officer,” she said.
Two people were taken to hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries, with Evelyn noting all of the vehicles were significantly damaged.
“The car’s driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and disobeying a traffic control device,” Evelyn said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
