The BC Wildfire Service says there are 42 firefighters on scene at the Petit Creek wildfire today, roughly 18 kilometres north west of Merritt.
The fire is still mapped at 100 hectares in size, and its still burning out of control.
“Today, heavy equipment is continuing to create ground access for crews as well as developing guard on sections of the fire perimeter,” the BC Wildfire Service said, in a statement.
“Crews are currently performing small scale hand ignitions to remove unburnt fuel between the fire perimeter and control lines as well as constructing hand guard on the southwest perimeter of the fire.”
An evacuation alert affecting 54 properties in the Canford and Miller Estates Subdivision of the Thompson Nicola Regional District remains in place.
Still no word on what caused the Petit Creek fire, though its suspected to be human caused.
