Kamloops RCMP say a man in his 50s was taken to Royal Inland Hospital after a reported stabbing at the Star Lodge this afternoon.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to the motel on Columbia Street West just after 3:30 p.m. today to reports of a fight that turned into a stabbing.
She tells NL News the victim was conscious and breathing when he was taken to hospital.
“Our police dog service did respond and is assisting our front line officers in searching for evidence,” she said. “They’re collecting statements and doing their investigation at this time.”
There is still no word on a potential suspect or if the incident was targeted.
“There were a few descriptions that were provided so police are going through it and trying to locate a suspect,” she added.
As of publishing, officers were still on scene at the motel, though its unclear how long they will be there for.
“It is really preliminary right now. We always say to people if they have anything that stuck out in their mind to make a note of it while its fresh in their head because it might have some details that help police,” Evelyn said.
Anyone with information on the stabbing is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2021-12506.
This is the second major police presence at Star Lodge in as many days. Yesterday, a suspect was arrested at the motel following an alleged armed robbery near Aberdeen Mall.
