Several streams downstream of Kamloops Lake are now under a high streamflow advisory, as the spring freshet starts to hit its stride.
The BC River Forecast Centre says waterways affected include Guichon Creek, Deadman River and smaller streams around Logan Lake, Savona, Cache Creek and Ashcroft.
Forecasters say water levels have risen in recent days because of snow melting at higher elevations. It says temperatures are expected to gradually rise this week which could lead to rivers rising at a faster rate; it adds there is no “significant” rainfall expected in the days ahead.
Meanwhile, a high streamflow advisory is still in place for the Bonaparte River, which was issued a week ago.
In Kamloops, the Thompson River has risen by 1.95 feet in the past seven days, near the Overlanders Bridge. At the outlet at Kamloops Lake, the river has risen by 2.9 feet in the past week.
During a high streamflow advisory, people are also asked to stay away from fast-moving rivers and their riverbanks, which could be unstable throughout the spring.
