Interior Health says more than 14,000 vaccine doses have been administered to rural communities in the Thompson and Nicola regions since mobile vaccine clinics started.
According to IH’s website, vaccine clinics have been made available to more than a dozen communities within Thompson-Nicola Regional District boundaries and have been set up at nine different communities.
In total, as of yesterday, IH says 14,405 doses have been administered in those clinics, including 13,997 first doses and 408 second doses to residents who had gotten a first dose earlier.
Those total vaccines include 5,219 in Chase, 2,512 in Clearwater and 2,101 in Ashcroft. Doses were also administered at mobile clinics in Barriere, Logan Lake, Clinton, Lytton and Sun Peaks.
A one-day mobile vaccine clinic was also set up in Blue River yesterday, but data was not available by end of day.
IH points out these figures don’t include vaccine doses administered by the First Nations Health Authority in rural communities.
Chief medical health officer Dr. Albert de Villiers has said mobile clinics will be returning to rural communities, with specific information still to come. IH has a dedicated webpage for dates and locations of mobile vaccine clinics, which is regularly updated, and it can be found here.
As of Thursday afternoon, the B.C. government says 2,335,513 vaccine doses have been administered in the province to more than 2.21 million people. By Sunday, any person in B.C. aged 18 and older will be able to book a vaccine appointment.
