Kamloops RCMP say a 21-year-old Vernon man who was reported missing in the city on Wednesday has been found dead.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police found the body of David Melanson in Kamloops Lake, near Frederick Road, around 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
“The deceased was confirmed as the missing person,” she said. “The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is investigating. No further information is available.”
Melanson was last seen in Kamloops around 1 a.m on Wednesday, May 12. His family told NL News yesterday that they were afraid for his safety as he had escaped from the South Hills Psychiatric Centre on the North Shore.
Reached by NL News, a staff member at the South Hills Psychiatric Centre said they would not be commenting on the incident.
Evelyn says if you have any information related to the investigation, or about Melanson’s disappearance, you’re asked to contact Tk’emlups RCMP Detachment.
